The size of an air connector depends on the amount of air that needs to be transported. The most common size is a quarter-inch, but there are also larger versions available, such as a half-inch or a three-eighths-inch. The size indicates the maximum amount of air volume that the air connector can handle. There are two basic types of air connectors, automotive and industrial. Automotive plugs are known as T-Style, while industrial plugs are known as Type D. The former is the most common, and they are usually blue. ARO style plugs are typically green and V-style plugs are purple.

A quick connection coupler is an option for a compressor. It is easy to use and has several different connection layouts. It is made of durable metal, and can withstand ample pressure. These are also resistant to abrasion and impact. They also provide a tight seal. These couplers are color-coded to indicate their automotive applications, so that sharing a compressor can be easy.

The industrial style male plug has a bevel that protrudes outward, while the automotive style male plug has a bevel that points inward. This style looks similar to a spark plug. In addition to the two types, there are also some universal fittings, which can be used with either style.
